Hunter Still Going Strong

Birmingham Evening Mail 2001.06.08

It's a mighty long way down Rock and Roll goes one of Ian Hunters best lines and 30 years after first starting the journey he is still going strong. The man with the shades sent the audience at the 'Robin One' at Brierley Hill into near rapture for the two hour election night performance of driving rock and tender ballads. Best of all, there were signs aplenty that he has not lost his writing talents as he pumped out a string of impressive numbers from his new album 'Rant'.

After kicking off with the trademark opener ' Once Bitten Twice Shy' he showcased a string of tracks from the new album, including 'Rip off', 'Dead Man Walking', 'Purgatory' and 'Still Love Rock and Roll'. But, predictably, the loudest cheers were reserved for the old favourites such as 'All The Way From Memphis', 'Roll Away The Stone' and 'The Golden Age Of Rock And Roll'. The evening came to an end with a raucous encore of 'Saturday Gigs' and 'All The Young Dudes' leaving the audience to go home with few apparent faults for the future government.

Hunter's parting shot was 'Pleasure doing business with you'. The pleasure was all ours.
