Ian Hunter Band, Roadmenders Northampton 11 June 2001
Talk about coincidences.
After an election with the lowest turn out since the 1930's Ian Hunter's new CD 'Rant' is a timely offering.
It offers Mott the Hoople's frontman's thoughts on modern-day Britain and echoes a mood of disillusion apparently felt by voters.
Ian Hunter doesn't like what he sees and the message is even stronger when powerful songs like 'Ripoff ' and 'Death of a Nation' are played live.
Ian Hunter once lived in Northampton so this was something of a homecoming. 'Once Bitten Twice Shy' and 'All the Way From Memphis' kept nostalgia fans happy but the quality of new songs like 'Dead Man Walking' shone through.
It was all rounded off by a dazzling 'All the Young Dudes', with Tracie Hunter joining Dad on backing vocals.
Hunter still has plenty to say and long may he keep saying it. Dylan isn't the only over 60 worth celebrating.
