This album includes material written and recorded by Corky Laing, Ian Hunter, Mick Ronson, and Felix Pappalardi in 1978. Overdubs by Leslie West were added afterward. The last two tracks are from Corky's solo album Makin' It On The Street, and do not feature Hunter or Ronson. A Windows computer program called the CDK Video Player is included on the CD, which will play a warbly Elektra promo video of The Outsider shot in the studio and featuring Ian, Mick, Corky, and Felix.

The Mick Ronson Memorial Concert was held at the Hammersmith Apollo in London on 23 April 1994. The NMC CDx3 reissue includes an enhanced CD disc with two Quicktime videos. it also has a promo sticker that incorrectly lists the concert as 1993 instead of 1994.

The original Norwegian release included a booklet that folded into a small poster. The UK CD release includes lyrics and a screen-printed disc. The UK vinyl LP has a gatefold cover, and was originally as part of a numbered limited edition box set that also included copy of Ian's book and a signed photo. This album started out with an agreement by Ian to sing on a Casino Steel album, under the title The Gringo Starrs. Ian got on very well the musicians involved, especially Darrell Bath, and Ian eventually took a greater role in the project. The original CD was released in Norway with a die-cut CD cover. It was later issued in the USA on Steve Popovich's Cleveland International label.

This live video was filmed at the Dr. Pepper Festival in New York NY on 11 September 198a and features Ian Hunter, Robbie Alter (guitar), Mark Clarke (bass), Tommy Mandel (keyboards), and Mark Kaufman (drums). It was released on home video and broadcast as an MTV Concert. MTV later put both All The Young Dudes and Central Park 'n' West into the video rotation occasionally. Produced by Bill Boggs and Richard Baker, and directed by Clark Santee.

Rape originally had a short intro from Singing In The Rain, a chilling reminder of the brutal rape scene in Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange. CBS apparently got cold feet and withdrew the intro, but not before it slipped out a few early Holland pressings. The intro was restored when the album was reissued on CD as part of Sony's UK Rewind series.
